Jimmy is also the Creative Director and MD of the Manchester based Northern Song Collective, which is a brand new publishing company that’s looks after the area’s unsigned talent.

The heats for the competition start on Wednesday 11 January in the Oasis Music Bar, with the final being staged at the same venue on Wednesday 22 February.

£300 worth of prizes are up for grabs with an opportunity to launch the city’s two week Irish festival with a paid gig to the winner on Friday 2 March.

Doors open at 8pm, with free admission and the first act is on at 8.30pm.

The evening will be run as an "unplugged" event so acts will be asked to play acoustic sets.

When asked about why he got himself involved in setting up the competition Jimmmy replied "We are trying to build a music night where bands, singer-songwriters and solo artists, or any type of musician can come down and show us what they can do. We have a huge range of contacts within the UK music business at the highest levels and we know there is great talent out there in Manchester just waiting to be given a break."

The Oasis Music Bar is part of the Farmers Arms Pub in Burnage, it opened the bar which is dedicated to the Burnage super group on the 5th July 2009. The bar features a special photo exhibition by the highly acclaimed music photographer Karen McBride, plus a whole host of memorabilia donated by the band which includes Platinum Albums and touring posters. It attracts tourists from all over the world and has been used to film interviews about the band by a number of TV companies which include the BBC.
