Mayo's Junior GAA team got a warm Mayo welcome when they played Lancashire GAA in the All Ireland Junior Inter-County Semi Final at Old Bedians Sports ground in South Manchester. The Mayo team won the semi final convincingly by scoring 2-14 to Lancashire's 0-11 in front of a capacity crowd on Saturday 4th August.

The triumph kick started a trio of wins for Mayo's Junior, Minor & Senior teams which saw unprecedented celebrations in Manchester's Mayo village in Levenshulme. Lawrence Hennigan from the Manchester-Mayo Tourism and Business group commented "It was great to welcome the Junior team to South Manchester, they kick started a historic triple win for the County. We were still celebrating the wins until the early hours in Levenshulme which is home to one of the biggest Mayo communities in the UK. I had just returned from Mayo where I was helping to put together a special Manchester Mayo Gathering in August next year. I only hope that Lancashire end up playing the semi final in Mayo next year."

The Mayo team enjoyed a celebration dinner at St Kentigern's club courtesy of one of the chairs of the Manchester Irish Festival - Kevin Fitzpatrick before visiting a special celebration party at the Horseshoe in Levenshulme. The venue staged a special Mayo Gathering featuring traditional Irish band 'Shake the Barley' and Irish dance troupe 'Reel Deal'. James Hackland from Reel Deal added "The Mayo boys were great dancers as well as fantastic football players, it was a great night, we hope to see them all at the Gathering in Ballina next year in August."
