Irish Comedian to host Manchester’s first Royal Variety Performance

Manchester Irish Comedian, Peter Kay will be hosting the first ever Royal Variety Performance to be held at The Lowry in Salford Manchester on Monday 5th December.

The Bolton based comedian, whose Irish roots stem from County Tyrone, first shot to fame by winning the City Life Comedian of the Year Award at Levenshulme’s legendary Irish Club – The Palace Nightclub in 1996. He also played a series of sell out shows at the club during the annual Manchester Irish Festival. It seems apt that he will be now entertaining Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, who is guest of honour.

The annual star studded event will feature fellow Manchester Irish Comedian, Jason Manford who also won his first Comedy Award at the Palace Levenshulme. Other headline acts include Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowall, plus X Factor USA judge and popstar Nicole Scherzinger and singer Cee-Lo Green. Fellow Brits will include chart-topping singer Pixie Lott and comedian Greg Davies.

Performers from new West End show Singin' in The Rain, will also hit the stage along with pop supremos Tony Bennett, Il Divo and Barry Manilow. Aussie funny man Tim Minchin completes the line up.

The Royal Variety Performance will be screened on ITV1 at a later date.
