It seems like St Bede's has become something of a political hotbed in this year’s local elections as two former pupils and a former teacher of St Bede's College, in Manchester are to stand in the forthcoming local elections for the Liberal Democrats on Thursday 6 May.

Twenty two year old Business graduate James Hennigan whose Irish roots stem from Mayo is to stand as the candidate in the Levenshulme Ward and another former pupil Victor Chamberlain(Irish roots stem from Galway), is to stand as the candidate for Chorlton. Completing the trio is former Biology teacher Dr Mary Di Mauro nee Doyle (Irish roots stem from County Cavan) who has been selected to stand in Northenden.

Mary said, “I taught both Victor and James when they were at the college and it’s great we are now colleagues!”

The College has had a number of former pupils who have followed a succesfull career in Politics, Labour MP for Wytheshawe Paul Goggins is one of them and has visited the College. Another visitor to the College is Conservative MP Graham Brady.

Victor himself has been back to the College earlier in the year with local MP John Leech to host a special session with the Literature & Philisophy group. He hopes tp go back in after the election to give the students an insight into this year’s campaign.

The College itself wants to remain completely impartial and is not affliated to any party.
