They managed to increase their previous days score against Korea by a further two points. Keeping the goals out from the very strong and powerful Slovakian side was Ballina man Kevin Quinn from County Mayo wearing the prestigious Number One shirt. The team for the second day running even had the weather on their side, with the sun shinning brightly throughout the match.

Ireland are aiming to top their group and go through to the quarter finals, they have their sights set on beating their previous best position of seventh place. They play again on Sunday 18 July at 2.30pm again, this time they are playing Switzerland. Friday 16 July
reland demolished Korea 21 points to 3 in their opening game of this year’s 2010 World Lacrosse Championships on Friday 16 July.

The match was held at Manchester University’s Sports Fields in Levenshulme, Manchester.

Popular Irish councillor John Commons from Levenshulme said “It was great to see Ireland get off to a winning start in Levenshulme which is home to the biggest Irish community outside of London. We are delighted that the games which are one of the biggest world sporting events since the Commonwealth Games are taking place at the Armitage Centre which is in the Levenshulme Ward. They are just a short walk away from Levenshulme village and I hope that Ireland and the rest of the teams in the competition will spend some of their free time visiting its amenities. As they would all be sure of a warm Irish welcome.”

The team have two more games this weekend which are on Saturday 17 July at 2.30pm and Sunday 18 July at 2.30pm before they find out if they get to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
