Ireland to compete in the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships in Levenshulme!

A squad from Ireland is among 30 national teams competing in the 2010 Men’s World Lacrosse Championships on the Armitage sports grounds on Mossley Road at Manchester University in Levenshulme starting on the 15 July.

Levenshulme Councillor James Hennigan said "It is great to Ireland competing in the World championships right in the heart of the biggest Irish community outside of London. I hope the Irish come out to support the team in their bid to win the world championships."

The field for the once every four years event is the biggest in the Tournament history, reflecting the steady growth and popularity of the sport sometimes called “the fastest game on two feet.”

Ireland, which competed in the 2002 and 2006 World Championships in Australia and Canada, will be joined by eight new national teams including Argentina, Mexico, Austria, France, Norway, Poland, Slovakia and Switzerland for this World Championship.

Ireland will compete in the Tournament’s Orange Division with pool play games against South Korea, Slovakia and Switzerland on 16, 17 and 18 July. Following pool play, elimination games will be played until the last two remaining teams play in the World Championship final on 24 July.
