Hundreds of visitors are expected to converge on County Levenshulme, the home of the biggest Irish community outside of London today for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The event on Wednesday 17 March and starts at 11am in the morning is one of the highlights of this years 2010 Manchester Irish Festival, which with over 200 events at fifty different venues is the UK’s biggest Irish celebration and third in the world. The 16 day festival continues until Sunday 21 March.

The village situated in the South of Manchester will host a series of Guinness sponsored free Tradfest concerts & club nights in its numerous Irish pubs along the A6 Stockport Road.

Transport to the village is being provided by the 192 bus which leaves Stockport and Manchester city centre every five minutes or people can use the train which stops right in the middle of the village, free car parking is also available.

Highlights on the day include the live screening of the Cheltenham Gold Cup races from 11am in the Fiddlers Green who are hosting an all day party, while a giant Tradfest Irish Music session sponsored by Guinness featuring the award winning Grace Kelly and friends takes place in the Union Irish bar from 3pm. M19 Bar will host a free ‘Young, Gifted & Gorgeous’ Irish club night which starts at 5pm with twenty two year old DJ James H and his cousin David H who guarantee to have you dancing until you drop. Later on in the evening the legendary Palace Nighhtclub DJ – Tom Dee will hit the decks to keep the party going until late.

Over at Hennigans Sports Bar, Denise and Dominic Johnson, Molly Lucy and Julian Homer will be performing in another Guinness sponsored Tradfest which is again free admission. The concert starts at 7pm.

Just down the road in Burnage the legendary Irish band ‘Driftwood’ are reforming for a one off concert for St Patrick’s night only at the Farmers Arms, concert starts at 7pm, free admission.
