25th Anniversary Reunion Ceili
The Castlemore Ceili Band
Lowton Civic Hall
This year the Castlemore Ceili Band formed In 1982 by Billy Greenall (piano) and by Sean McCabe (banjo) celebrates it's 25th Anniversary as a ceili dance band.
Billy Greenall had ofcourse featured in many famous ceili bands prior to this including The Liverpool Ceili Band and The New York Ceili Band to name but two. Sean McCabe, still a teenager at the time, had already been a member of the successful competition band, The Fianna Eireann Ceili Band.
From the mid 1970's and into the early 1980's both Billy and Sean taught twice weekly at a burgeoning music class based at The Brian Boru Club, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Nr Wigan. This class produced many fine muscians and subsequently enjoyed many CCE competition successes, perhaps the most notably of which was that of The Ogra Eireann Ceili Band which won the All Ireland 15 - 18 Ceili Band title, in Kilkenny in 1984.
Following years of competition The Castlemore Ceili Band was formed purely to play for ceili dances which it has had the pleasure of doing so since, during which time it has played throughout the North West of England and beyond. The band has enjoyed many members throughout it's 25 years; has benefited from the kind assistance of friends from other bands when required, and also the expert knowledge of Mr Michael Kierans as caller.
Billy Greenall and Sean McCabe emigrated to Ireland some 14 years ago, thus bringing an end to their participation with the band, save for when opportunities arose when visiting the UK. Their influence did not leave with them however and remains today in the form of Liam McCabe and Siobhan O'Donnell nee McCabe (brother and sister of Sean) the only ever-present members todate since the formation of The Castlemore Ceili Band.
The band is delighted that both Billy Greenall and Sean McCabe will be making the trip from Ireland to reunite with the band for the evening as will other former band members from Ireland and the UK.
The band would like to extend a warm welcome to all those who have been friends of the band and attended its ceili's down the years, without whom no evening would be possible or complete.
