Photography Exhibition

Friday 4th March - Sunday 20th March

The festival is converting the Union Music Lounge on Stockport Road into an Arts Centre for the duration of the festival. There will be a two week exhibition, which features the work of the Manchester Irish Festival Arts collective of photographers; Dave Brunton, Ged the Camera and Tony Hennigan. The show features everything from a look at ‘Mayo’ in the West of Ireland, documentary shots of Manchester’s ten Irish Festivals to, a year in the life of a Rock photographer and insights into Levenshulme’s Irish community life.

 

Friday 4th March

‘Looking Back’ Manchester’s tenth
Irish Festival Launch Night

Time: 7pm

Admission: FREE

The launch night of the two-week exhibition features the work of the MIF Arts collective of photographers; Dave Brunton, Ged the Camera and Tony Hennigan.

 

Sunday 6th March

The Sunday afternoon Session

with Driftwood

Time: 4pm- 8pm

Admission: FREE

This Sunday afternoon session has become a legendary fixture of Levenshulme Village, where the emphasis is on having a great time. Expect a lively afternoon of good old Irish ‘Craic’ and Irish Music that makes you want to dance. South Manchester’s most popular Irish Band, “Driftwood” play a fine selection of country and Irish music.

Wednesday 9 March

‘From Mayo with Love’

Time: 7pm

Admission: FREE

Most of the Irish population of Levenshulme have close links to County Mayo on the West coast of Ireland. Tony’s exhibition focuses on the idyllic rural birthplace of his parents with its abundance of lakes, thatched cottages and miles of mountain ranges around the bustling and cosmopolitan town of Ballina during its internationally famous ‘Salmon Festival’ and much more.

 

Thursday 10 March

‘A year in the Life of Dave Brunton’

Time: 7pm

Admission: FREE

Dave Brunton is a Digital Photographer who has quickly established himself as one of the city’s leading Rock photographers. Expect shots of a host of Manchester’s unsigned bands to legendary bands like Celtic Rock group ‘Toss the Feathers’. His website www.xsync.co.uk features more of his work.

Friday Night Irish Session

Launch night of Levenshulme Fleadh
with Pete Durkin & Kev Deisey

Two of Manchester's most renowned Irish musicians kick off the 'Levenshulme Fleadh' with a full on Irish session of traditional Irish music and craic. Guest musicians, singers and dancers are sure of an Irish welcome to join in the session.

‘Irish Memories’

by Ged the Camera

Ged is a much respected documentary photographer whose work over the last ten years has recorded the changing face of the Irish scene in Manchester including its famous musicians, parades, sporting events and venues. He is one of the main contributors to the book ‘Irish Memories’ by Alan Keegan. His website www.gedcamera1.co.uk is an archive record of his work

Wednesday 16th March

ALL FM Radio’s Full Irish
St. Patrick’s Eve Party

Live Music with Kieran Cunningham
plus JIB Country Sounds

Time: 8pm on

Admission: FREE

Joe Casserly and all the team from ALL FM Radio’s Irish programme ‘The Full Irish’ will be on air from 7pm - 9pm and in the Union afterwards with Live Music by Kieran Cunningham plus JIB Country Sounds and surprise guests. Come and meet the team from the Full Irish and join in the Irish Party.

St. Patrick’s Night Special

Singer songwriter Adam Kelly hosts this special night of live entertainment playing everything from Danny Boy to N17 by the Saw Doctors. Get in early if you want to find a space in what will be fun filled evening of great Irish entertainment.
