Monday 7th March 2005

Adult Irish Dance Class

Time: 7 – 9pm
Ever wanted to join Riverdance? Come along to a none stop class, and take your first steps.

 

The Irish Culture Workshop

Time: 8.30 – 10.30pm.
Manchester Irish Language Group are holding a Gaelic Language taster session. Come along and try the Gaelic language for yourself all levels welcome.

Children’s Irish Dance Class

Time: 7pm – 9pm
Come along and try you feet at Irish Dancing.

 

Thursday 10th March

 

Irish Music Day for Primary Schools

Time: 9.45am – 3pm
The Manchester Music Service are running a full day of Irish music and song for children in Primary Schools. The Children will participate in three workshops which will include tin whistle, Percussion (Bodhran) and song. Culminating in a Grand Fleadh in the Great Hall. The event is being supported by the Arts Council, Manchester Irish Education Group and Irish Business.

Oral History Exhibition

Time: 11am - 4pm
This exhibition maps the lives of Irish people and their experience of migration to Manchester. Compiled by a group of Manchester students with the help of The Heritage Lottery Fund.

National Irish Studies Conference

Time: 9.30 am.- 4.00 pm.

Frank Nugent -“South Aris”- his re-enactment of Shackleton’s Epic Voyage across the Southern Ocean.

Joe Bradley – Celtic Mind – the history of the Irish dimension of Celtic football club

David McGuiness – St. Patrick – the historical tradition and the archaeological reality.

Fergus O Connor – Derek Hill and the painters of Tory Island, Donegal.

Eamonn Coleman – the works of poet Louis McNiece

This is a community not for profit event and the £10 fee covers speakers expenses, hire of equipment, publicity and teas/coffee.
