Welcome everybody to the
Manchester Irish Festival 2005 website.

Manchester will celebrate the city's tenth Irish Festival in March this year with an action packed sixteen days of Irish Music, Song, Dance and Culture. The annual event which is now established as one of the biggest Irish Festivals in Europe, is launched on Friday 4th March and runs to Sunday 20th March 2005.

As well as the headlining major international acts Tthe festival has never forgotten it's community roots and actively encourages and promotes everything from storytelling to music and dance workshops.

Acts and Events already confirmed for this years festival include 'The Sawdoctors', 'Riverdance', the international Rock competition 'YGG Unsigned 2005', Europe's biggest U2 tribe act 'Achtung-Baby' and a special concert tribute to the late 'Rory Gallagher'.

The UK's longest running Irish programme - BBC GMR's 'The Parlour' celebrates its 20th anniversary and so the traditional Irish Music & Dance troupe 'Young, Gifted & Green' is putting together a special tenth anniversary Irish Festival concert'.

The festival includes an Irish Comedy Festival as well Irish Photo exhibitions which will chart the festival's history and feature its close links with the West of Ireland.

Lawrence Hennigan from the official festival website said "We are really looking forward to the festival's tenth anniversary and want as many people to get involved possible.
