The Manchester Irish Festival 2003
8th - 18th March 2003

Fáilte

Welcome to the eighth Manchester Irish Festival, a celebration of all things Irish. The Festival was established in 1996 and has got bigger and bigger.

This year’s Festival brings together internationally renowned performers, exciting new musical talent, workshops, ceilidhs and comedians from across the Irish Community. The festival is delighted this year to bring together people from all ages in many venues across the city. There is something for everyone at the Manchester Irish Festival.

The St. Patrick’s Parade takes place on Sunday, March 16th and this year welcomes over 70 floats, numerous bands and walking groups. Last year’s Parade attracted over 150,000 people to the City
Centre, making it easily the biggest Irish Parade in the UK. At 11.45am the Parade will assemble at the Irish World Heritage Centre, Queens Road, Cheetham Hill, before moving off along Cheetham Hill Road towards the City Centre, led by Mounted Police who will be escorting the Lord Mayor of Manchester and other Civic Dignitaries.

The ever-popular Festival Market makes a welcome return to Albert Square, where for the first time, there is the Budweiser Beer tent with Live Entertainment till 7pm starting on Thursday, March 13th.

This year’s Festival committee welcomes the new venues involved in the Festival and is eternally grateful to our sponsors. This year, the festival hosts a remarkable 200 events and is proud to have Nobel Peace Prize Winner, John Hume MP, MEP, to launch the Festival.

Make sure that you show your support for the Festival by wearing a green ribbon, available from all participating venues during the Festival. All the monies raised from this will go to the Rainbow Family Trust and Irish Community Care.

So whether you enjoy the festivities in the City Centre, Cheetham Hill, Levenshulme, Didsbury, Chorlton, Fallowfield, Hulme, or anywhere else in Greater Manchester - “enjoy the craic”
